"We’re going to send a technical inspection team to do an inspection report to identify which developer is discharging untreated waste into the lake which breaches the law," Said Dr. Akankwasa after visiting the water body.
This was during the familiarisation visit by stakeholders led by Buganda Kingdom's Ministry of Culture and Tourism that included Buganda Heritage and Tourism Board, Buganda Land Board, KCCA represented by Lubaga Municipal Council together with NEMA.
"It’s a criminal offence to discharge effluent into any water body without a discharge permit and a discharge permit can only be given to you after you have convinced NEMA that you have treated the waste to the level that the waste is no longer a danger to the society.
"So we do not have any waste treatment plant that we have seen around, meaning that the sewerage that’s being discharged into the lake is untreated waste which is a criminal offence," added Dr. Akankwasa.
Buganda Kingdom's Culture and Tourism Minister David Kyewalabye Male lauded stakeholders for accepting to join hands with them in an agenda of developing the Lake and asked for law and order around the Kabaka's Lake.
Lubaga Deputy RCC, Anderson Burora, Lubaga Mayor Zacchy Mbeeraze, Simon Kaboggoza, the CEO Buganda Land Board, experts from Air Water Earth, among others participated in the tour.
